WPIP / MIP V Project Beneficiaries

National Agency for Water and Sewerage (AKUK)

The National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage (AKUK) is under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy (MIE). The Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) within AKUK is in charge of the implementation of WPIP/MIP V. AKUK is the Employer of the different Implementation Consultants and of the Institutional Consultant.

Six regional Water and Sewerage Companies (UKRs)

WPIP/MIP V will improve drinking water and sanitation services of approx. 30% of Albania’s total population or 50% of total urban population and of around 19,100 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), while supporting environmental protection.

6 regional UKRs serving 26 municipalities will be provided new and rehabilitated water and waste water infrastructure through an investment of about 126.5 Mio EUR. :

  • UKR Berat including Dimal, KuçovĂ«, Polican and Skrapar;
  • UKR Elbasan including Belsh, CĂ«rrik, Gramsh, Librazhd and Peqin;
  • UKR Fier including MallakastĂ«r, Patos and Roskovec;
  • UKR LezhĂ« including Kurbin and MirditĂ«;
  • UKR ShkodĂ«r including FushĂ« ArrĂ«z, MalĂ«sia e Madhe, PukĂ« and Vau i DejĂ«s;
  • UKR VlorĂ« including HimarĂ« and SelenicĂ«;
  • 6 New regional water companies (UKRs:
    (UKR Shkoder / UKR Lezhë / UKR Elbasan / UKR Fier / UKR Berat / UKR Vlore)
  • 20 municipal water utitlities taken over by the 6 regional UKRs
