The MIP V program continues to make remarkable progress in modernizing Elbasan’s water supply network, delivering long-term solutions to one of the city’s most pressing infrastructure challenges. According to the latest project update, thousands of residents are already benefiting from improved access to clean, reliable water.
To date, approximately 88% of the planned distribution network has been completed, with 40 kilometers of new pipelines installed. In parallel, 66% of household connections have been finalized, significantly expanding service coverage across the city.
Key technical components—including Electromagnetic Flow Meters, hydrants, and pressure testing systems—have also been deployed. The installation of Individual water meters is particularly noteworthy, enabling precise consumption monitoring and encouraging more responsible water usage while helping reduce waste.
The impact of the network upgrade extends beyond residential areas. Local businesses, public institutions, and other service providers—many of whom have struggled with irregular water access—stand to benefit from the enhanced system. Additionally, by replacing outdated pipelines, the project is expected to reduce water loss, increase operational efficiency, and improve long-term sustainability.
While significant milestones have been achieved, work is ongoing. Project teams remain focused on completing the remaining sections of the network and restoring roads and pavements affected during construction.
With its comprehensive and forward-looking approach, the MIP V initiative is not only transforming Elbasan’s water infrastructure today—it’s setting a new standard for future projects throughout the region.
This project is being implemented under the WPIP MIP V Programme, with the generous financial support of the European Union, KfW, and SECO. The contribution of these partners plays a vital role in modernizing Elbasan’s water system and ensuring the delivery of a reliable and sustainable service to its citizens.
