New Water Supply Infrastructure for Kakarriq, Gocaj, and Kodër Marlekaj Residents

A transformative upgrade to the drinking water infrastructure is nearing completion in the Shengjin, Kakarriq, Gocaj, and Kodër Marlekaj areas, as part of the final phase of the Water Sector Perfomance and Investment Program / Municipal Infrastructure Program V (WPIP / MIP V) funded by EU, KfW and SECO. Designed to ensure a safe and consistent water supply, the project introduces modern engineering solutions aimed at resolving long-standing shortages and meeting future demand.

Reliable Water Supply Through Modern Solutions

In the Mali i Kakarriq area, two new wells have been drilled to access local water reserves. These wells are set to feed into a newly constructed 400-cubic-meter reservoir, now in its final stages. The reservoir will serve as a critical buffer during high-demand periods, stabilizing water pressure and ensuring consistent access.

To connect these facilities to households, an expansive pipeline network is being laid out. Of the planned 20.19 kilometers, approximately 19 kilometers have already been completed. This network will efficiently channel water from the source to the reservoir and onward to homes across Kakarriq and Gocaj.

As part of the modernization efforts, advanced water meters and distribution boxes are also being installed. These upgrades will improve management, reduce losses, and empower residents to monitor their own consumption more effectively.

Overcoming Terrain Challenges in Kodër Marlekaj

In Kodër Marlekaj, where rugged and rocky terrain presents unique engineering challenges, work continues with determination. Despite difficult conditions, 5 kilometers of a planned  13.5 kilometer pipeline have already been successfully laid.

The project also includes the installation of 1 pumping station, which will play a key role in the distribution of water throughout the area.

A Step Toward Sustainable Infrastructure

This comprehensive initiative marks a significant step forward in improving public services and infrastructure in Lezha. Local officials and community members alike have welcomed the project, recognizing its role in securing the region’s water future. As the WPIP/MIP V program approaches completion, residents in Kakarriq, Gocaj, and Kodër Marlekaj can look forward to a future where reliable drinking water is no longer a daily concern, but a safe and sustainable part of everyday life.
