The construction of Vlora’s new water supply line is moving forward at a rapid pace, as part of the WPIP MIP V Programme. This project aims to modernize the city’s water infrastructure in line with international standards, ensuring a reliable and sustainable service for the local community.
The construction of the new water supply line in the city of Vlora is progressing rapidly and steadily. This initiative, part of the WPIP MIP V Programme, aims to significantly improve the water supply network in line with international standards.
To date, 56.5 kilometers of the planned 92 kilometers of main distribution pipelines have been successfully installed. All pipes comply with European Union standards, and connections are made using an advanced welding technique to ensure tight, secure joints and prevent any potential water loss.
In addition to the main pipeline network, essential system components are also being integrated. A total of 230 out of 834 planned junction nodes have been installed so far. The installation of 171 fire hydrants is scheduled for a later phase, further enhancing the safety and resilience of the network.
An important aspect of the project includes the restoration of roadways impacted by the works. All pipeline trenches are dug to a depth of 1.2 meters, pressure and compaction tests are conducted prior to asphalt/concrete resurfacing to ensure the durability and quality of the asphalt layer.
Significant upgrades are also underway at pumping stations. One of the main facilities is undergoing full rehabilitation, including the replacement of outdated pumps and the installation of modern electrical panels. At the same time, protective measures along the coastal line are planned to strengthen the long-term resilience of the infrastructure.
This project is being implemented under the WPIP MIP V Programme, with the generous financial support of the European Union, KfW, and SECO. The contribution of these partners plays a vital role in modernizing Vlora’s water system and ensuring the delivery of a reliable and sustainable service to its citizens.
