The ongoing Water Sector Performance and Investment Programme / Municipality Infrastructure Programme V (WPIP / MIP V) was among the initiatives represented at the 13th Balkans Joint Conference and Exhibition, held from 11 to 13 November 2025 in Durrës, Albania. The event, organized jointly by SHUKALB (Water Supply and Sewerage Association of Albania) and SHUKOS (Water and Wastewater Works Association of Kosovo), brought together regional and international professionals from the water sector under the theme “Sustainable Water Management in a Changing Climate.”
As one of the region’s key infrastructure initiatives, the WPIP / MIP V Program aims to improve the performance and sustainability of water utilities across Albania, with a focus on efficiency, governance, and service quality. The program was represented at the conference by its institutional consultant — a Joint Venture composed of three leading European engineering and consulting companies: SWECO, SETEC, and MACKS.
This consortium serves as the program’s institutional consultant, providing technical assistance, capacity development, and strategic guidance for the implementation of investments in municipal water and sanitation infrastructure. Through its participation in the conference, the WPIP / MIP V team shared insights on how data-driven performance management and targeted investments can enhance resilience in the face of climate change and resource challenges.
The Balkans Joint Conference once again proved to be a valuable platform for exchanging experiences, promoting regional cooperation, and highlighting innovative approaches in water sector reform — objectives that align closely with the mission and long-term goals of the WPIP / MIP V Program.
