As part of his official visit to Albania, Carsten Schneider visited Shkodër, where he was introduced to key development projects supported by German Cooperation, including the Municipal Infrastructure Programme V (MIP V) financed by KfW, EU and SECO.
During the visit to Rozafa Castle, Minister Schneider received an overview of the investments being implemented under MIP V, which aim to improve water supply infrastructure and service quality for residents of Shkodër.
The ongoing works under the programme include:
- Rehabilitation and replacement of 53.7 km of outdated and heavily leaking water distribution network
- Installation of 1,820 new household connections equipped with 2,500 individual water meters
- Construction of approximately 4 km of new transmission main to improve water pressure in the city centre
These investments amounting EUR 19.5 million are part of Germany’s long-term partnership with Albania to strengthen municipal infrastructure, enhance environmental sustainability, and improve living standards for local communities.
Through KfW financing and close cooperation with Albanian partners, the WPIP / MIPV Programme (Water Sector Performance and Investment Programme / Municipal Infrastructure Programme V) continues to deliver tangible results for citizens and support the sustainable development of the country.
